The life and mind of a transplanted Texan loving Cincinnati: thoughts about journalism, leadership, social media and running my first marathon

2 of my New Years Goals

Posted on | January 1, 2010 | No Comments

I’ve got a handful of New Years goals. Some deal with home and family improvements, and I’ll keep those at home. But there are two I’ll share here:

  1. Run a marathon.  In early 2009, I started running.  In my first 44 years, I never stuck with any specific exercise routine for a long period of time.  Now I can say I’ve changed that, and here’s the evidence via my MapMyRun training log and profile.   I thank the amazing “Echo Running Club” and my family for supporting this great journey.  In May, I plan to run my first-ever full-marathon: the Cincinnati Flying Pig
  2. Blog more often, perhaps daily.  My Cincinnati neighbor and friend competitor friend Mandy Jenkins is social media editor for the Cincinnati Enquirer and Cincinnati.com.  She’s a busy lady at work and home, yet she finds time to produce a smart media-focused blog called Zombie Journalism.  Many of my peers also blog.  I should be doing the same.   As Stuart Smalley once said, “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and people like me.”

I’m not sure if Stuart ever believed his own catch-phrase, but I’ll choose it believe it for me nonetheless.  I’ve always said in all my years of blogging, I’ll keep doing it even if no one reads it.  So back to blogging I go.  I’ll do my best to post 3-4 times a week, with the primary topics being journalism, social media and running.
